I discovered Open Challenges while working with my son to develop curriculum for a self directed design degree through Fairhaven College at WWU. He is interested in Social Impact Design.
I have become very interested in how to get my profession, Landscape Architecture, involved in Open Challenges. I see these as a wonderful opportunity to engage youth who really want to work on projects that make a difference.
I am applying for a year long Fellowship with the Landscape Architecture Foundation with the goal of exploring benefits of Open Challenges to the profession. I am proposing working with educators and practitioners to increase the professions awareness and participation. After a period of exploration, I would like to design and launch a challenge focused on a landscape issue that addresses a global issues with local solutions. I have some preliminary ideas 2018 or 2019
Ideally, this would be in partnership with IDEO and a philanthropic organization. I see open challenges as an alternative to competitions. I would very much like to speak with IDEO about this opportunity. My inquiries through IDEO Partners website have received no response. I am building a budget, and some input on costs of a challenge would be helpful. The Fellowship application is due December 1. Board members I have spoken with are very interested in this idea.
Here is an example of competition the firm I used to work for has sponsored. http://www.aecom.com/careers/urban-sos/
I would like to see something similar using Open Challenge
