The Order of the Good Death

The YouTube generation takes on death.

Beams of humor, style and - dare I say it - sass cutting through the darkness & quiet that surrounds end-of-life.   Bracing, refreshing & provocative.

"The Order is about making death a part of your life. That means committing to staring down your death fears- whether it be your own death, the death of those you love, the pain of dying, the afterlife (or lack thereof), grief, corpses, bodily decomposition, or all of the above.  Accepting that death itself is natural, but the death anxiety and terror of modern culture are not."

Also of note:  the "death positivity" movement has parallels in the "sex positivity" movement.

Glad you brought this up! Framing a group as a youtube generation really helps us see how a younger, more tech-driven, and expressive generation sees death, and it seems like there are a lot of questions! One positive thing I like about making videos is that often times, you speak. And speaking, or verbally vocalizing questions and ideas is good practice. In this case, it's good practice in verbalizing discussions around death. Perhaps when younger youtube generation people have to face death, they will be more vocal about asking questions.

A lovely observation.

There is also a scale/reach benefit - video is shared more than any other kind of online content (4x more, according to Contently, although the #s differ).   Also (and perhaps as a result), YouTube is the second largest search engine in the world.  Which is to say that we (increasingly) prefer to get information in video form.

Thanks for your insight, Oonie! Video and online content is a great way to share information. Looking forward to your ideas in the next phase of the challenge.
