Surrounded by loved ones

A way to have family all around the world be present virtually

My grandfather passed away this past December. He was relatively healthy so it took us by surprise that he had a heart attack and his health diminished so quickly. My grandfather has 11 children and 24 grandchildren spread across the world. The family members in Southern California scrambled to his bedside at the hospital. For those further away, we had little options. I was able to FaceTime while he was in the hospital but I had to get off the phone so that my brother in New York could FaceTime with him as well. That got me thinking that there should be a way for all of us to "be present" at the bedside of a dying family member.

What is a provocation or insight that might inspire others during this challenge?

I would love a live streaming application that would allow those far away to be in the room with their loved ones.

Hi Lena,

I hope we can find new ways we can implement technology to help us connect with loved ones.
Check out these similar posts, Sharing our last bowl of “long life noodles” with Grandma over WeChat , Virtual Experience , and "If I die" Facebook app for last messages to loved-ones - great or creepy?  for inspiration. Looking forward to more of your posts and your contribution in the next phase!
