"Based in the Netherlands, Veldboer's organization scoffs at the logistical hurdles of transporting terminally ill patients who need high levels of care and, often, lots of medical equipment. The Ambulance Wish Foundation employs a fleet of custom-built ambulances and always has highly trained medical staff on hand for emergencies.

Their message? Positive end-of-life experiences are far too important to pass up. Today, the AWF has over 230 volunteers and has fulfilled nearly 7,000 wishes."

You'll definitely want to read the full article.

What is a provocation or insight that might inspire others during this challenge?

How might we not only make people's last wishes possible, but allow them opportunities to get in touch with what those wishes are?

This is magnificent Joanna.  Thank you so much for sharing it.  I was aware of Make a Wish for kids and the article highlights that.  In Make a Wish the wishes are often "bigger" and might involve more planning.  Some of the things the adults are asking for - why can't we provide these more than once?
What I love about this program is that it is coming from the society.  I think for people with means they might be able to orchestrate some things that their loved ones want, but this addresses end of life for anyone in Holland.  It is humbling.

Thanks for reading, Bettina. The article spoke to me as well, largely because of the things the elderly asked for. I'd love to see an idea like this take shape during our Ideas phase!

I wonder if students at the NYC/NYU Open IDEO meet up might be interested…..

Bettina Fliegel thanks for bringing this post to my attention. It is really inspiring. I love like you that this came up from one experience... it's amazing to then be able to scale it. @Joannaspoth we will definitely share with the NYC OpenIDEO community at our ideation meetup today.

Hi, I did talk about the idea yesterday and people were really moved by the story but no group picked up as an inspiration for the idea they brainstormed upon. :-(
However, Alberto's idea is very much inspired by the same assumptions:
Bettina Fliegel go and check it out!
