Get involved early by volunteering in a Hospital / Elderly Home/ Hospice..etc.

It might be easier to prepare and plan for ours, when we can learn and experience it by helping others ( to value our time & life now )

Who is your idea designed for and how does it reimagine the end-of-life experience?

This is designed for everyone, regardless of age, as long as you want to help & have a heart for it. It could have a more intense program for those really into this, e.g. for designers, (university) researcher, future medical students..etc. Via the volunteering process, simply being in that setting, being, talking and helping those being impacted/working there, you would gain insight and experience about sickness/dying/ageing/asking help etc & it would be easier to plan / prepare for ours.

A program that:

1. Help you to Get involved/ experience what is it like to experience dying by volunteering at Elderly Home/Hospice/Palliative care...etc., such that you could get insight on what and how it feel like as we age/dying...etc. e.g. by helping the patient or the care givers on certain tasks, or simply being or talking to them...etc.

2. Connect/match you with the right pairing/ preference, e.g. your skills, hobbies, experience, early life style..etc. such that the learning /experience would be more personal / relevant.  e.g. if you are a hair stylist, might be to match you with giving nice haircut to the patient, or if you are student who want to be a nurse, then the program might also match you to help a nurse...etc.

3. There would be some work-sheet/ suggestion/ simple questions, to provoke some action/change/ idea on what we could do to prepare for ours. The worksheet would varies from your interest/ stage of your life depends on the help offered, the people you connected with or the environment you work at..etc.

4. Link it up with others to form community, to trigger scale / bigger impact.

5. Somehow provide feedback to decision maker/ influencer/ designer/ research group...etc.

6. Some sort of community/group chat..etc. to sharing experience/learning/idea..etc to  all volunteers for future idea/reference..etc.

What early, lightweight experiment might you try out in your own community to find out if the idea will meet your expectations?

Organise some visit/volunteer elderly home /hospital among friends/ colleague ( or make it a team-building event!) followed up with a debrief session on what we have learn, and any interesting founding with both the hospital/ volunteer (and the patient)

What skills, input or guidance from the OpenIDEO community would be most helpful in building out or refining your idea?

All feedback is welcome. 1. How to provoke an personal action or a change from those experience? e.g. via providing a worksheet to volunteer/asking questions to the volunteer... or just believe that it would happen naturally? 2. How to share the learning/ experience to others? esp. to those who would improve the system/ design? 3. Any training/watch out needed before volunteering? 4. How to categorise/sort & match the volunteer with those who need help?

Tell us about your work experience:

I worked at the R&D and Engineering department of a fast-moving consumer good company in China. During my free time, I volunteer regularly at local NGO/ communities, e.g. providing remote lesson to kids in poor village, giving drawing lesson...etc.
