Who is your idea designed for and how does it reimagine the end-of-life experience?

The idea is for those grieving. We don't always get to say goodbye, or how much we loved someone, or appreciated them, or ... The Message Tree allows us to express that, and send prayers on the breeze. It allows for everyone, loved ones and passers-by to write notes to ones they lost. To share in grief, and universal love. To be reminded that we're not alone.

The idea is simple. Identify a tree in a park, and tie colorful messages to the branches. Notes of gratitude or  remembrances of his/ her kindnesses, or prayers, or quotes, or thoughts,...

Fix a poster close by to let people - passers-by - know that they can write a message to Their loved ones, alive or gone. Leave paper and ribbons for the messages.

Identify a day to remember the person in this special way every year.

This will connect people, bring them together, create community, and help them see they're not alone.

What early, lightweight experiment might you try out in your own community to find out if the idea will meet your expectations?

My brother-in-law passed away recently and this is my niece's idea. We're going to identify a tree in a park and let friends and relatives know when we intend to write messages, and hang them.

What skills, input or guidance from the OpenIDEO community would be most helpful in building out or refining your idea?

Not quite sure what would help. Will learn as we go along.
