Can we make ACP documentation more social to fit the reality of end of life decision-making?

Who is your idea designed for and how does it reimagine the end-of-life experience?

Healthcare proxies, families, friends, and everyone else who support decision-making deserve clearer support.

End of life decisions are made and supported socially, but our documentation of goals doesn't account for these social components. Let's make documentation systems that support social decision making and build the systems that support the decision-makers.

What early, lightweight experiment might you try out in your own community to find out if the idea will meet your expectations?

Interviews with people who have acted as healthcare proxies and their families to discover what has worked well.

What skills, input or guidance from the OpenIDEO community would be most helpful in building out or refining your idea?

Interviews with people who have had good end of life decision-making experience and access to people who are preparing to make decisions for others.

Tell us about your work experience:

I lead the design and research practices for Common Practice, a healthcare innovation company focused on designing tools for conversations about serious illness and death. I led the design team that created My Gift of Grace, the award-winning game conversation game about end of life issues.

Hi Nick! I wanted to quickly share some feedback we recently received from our sponsors and advisory panel: This is great. "Although My Gift of Grace is an existing product, I think it is really important to highlight the focus on 'social planning'. I wonder if there are other existing similar products we could gain inspiration from."

Look forward to seeing your idea evolve during this last week of the Refinement phase!
