Updates: How has your idea changed or evolved throughout the Prize? What updates have you made to this submission? (1500 characters)

UOECD got started last 18 months back registering a not for profit namely Ignite the Spark - University of Early Childhood Development and got honored in this short span time by 37,000 subscribers including kids, teacher and schools globally. People still in 2018 around us are focusing on reading books and traditional outdated content development but we realized that pulse is somewhere else "cartoon animation" is something which attracts infants and kids hence you can see an incidence of kids and early child across mobile phones is too high!

This is what triggers their attention. Hence we successfully completed our prototypic research and launch animation house in the US and second at the top of the mountain in Tajikistan with a dual purpose.
A. To create innovative Early childhood content across globe with best teachers and technology and reach over 1 million people across globe for less than $1/child per month initially free.
B. Secondly, poverty alleviation reaching the underserved a place where literacy was 98% in Khorog, Tajikistan at 16,795 FT mountaintop where no employment opportunity at all being declared as Ultra Poor Segment.

To date, we have over 130+ videos ready in last 18 months with a team of 12 people but need to grow to 100+ to reach 1000+ cartoon animation lessons by 2020 serving over half a million subscribers creating 100+ social employment. Hence you can say its a social project with dual aspects of ECD and Poverty Alleviation in one go.

Describe your submission in one clear sentence

To create first ever cartoon animation based Early Childhood Development University for people in the US and global world serving over 1 million teachers, schools, kids, and caregivers by 2020. University of Early Childhood Development aims to provide end to end child development from cognitive mind to mental and motor simulation, sensory development & ethical framework. It is proven that if you coach a child right, he is 273% successful than an average citizen enjoying a quality of life.

Describe how your solution could be a game-changer for your selected Opportunity Area (600 characters)

Technology is massive. Our idea is not limited to one room or region. This will be like Khan Academy to Early Childhood Industry which is missing to date. If we see around we have content in bits and pieces that teachers, educators, and parents refer from Youtube and other sources not backed by trained ECD teachers having any learning utility. With UOECD, we are trying to bring education for just $1/child affordable which he loves.

Secondly, content developed is for a broader range of ECD kids, schools & parents aged 0-8 years with the target to have over 1000+ lessons and 500K subscribers.

Select an Innovation Target

  • System design: Solutions that target changing larger systems.

Tell us more about your innovation (1500 characters)

Our innovation is developed using cartoon based high-end tools which is very expensive to create but its very necessary since the child in 2018 loves mobile interaction and cartoon hence putting our money in the old school of thoughts like reading books or coloring utensils is obsolete. We need to change with time which UOECD has realized, piloted and got success with no marketing to reach 37000 subscribers in just 1 last year.

UOECD will be web and mobile-enabled platform accessible to anyone and gradually we are working with robotics company to provide 4 ft moving and talking robot that could be financed by schools for less than $200/month. This will be a break thru as these robots will assist teachers and parents to involve a child with ongoing updated technology and test them towards ECD certifications for the first time in life at fractions of the cost.

What problem are you aiming to solve? (3 sentences)

1. Providing first of its kind Cartoon based animation ECD content that a child loves for Kids, Schools, and Parents
2. Developing technology that auto updates and keeps them in sync to follow as part of their ongoing syllabus introducing innovation in everyday schoolings tradition.
3. Introducing first ECD robot development with content in mind and having the ability to test and certify kids and early parents.

Explain your idea (5000 characters)

We have achieved 37000 subscribers and reach to 100+ schools in just 1 year.

Who benefits? (1500 characters)

1. ECD Kids 0-8 years of age
2. 17000+ schools in US and Global Outreach

What kind of impact will your idea have? (1500 characters)

By 2020 we aim to reach 1 million kids, parents and teachers in United States and Global Outreach changing the paradigm of how they teach kids at school bringing more innovative cartoon based animation content to their lives and introducing first ECD robot.

How does or how could your idea impact low-income children? (1500 characters)

We are bringing this education subscription for as low as $1/child under not for profit entity
On the other hand, we are creating employment in the US and underserved region of ultra poverty at the mountaintop in Khorog, Tajikistan under the supervision of US teachers to bring down cost 300x lower to reach the masses.

Innovation: What makes your concept innovative? (1500 characters)

Its first of the kind, we don't have any cartoon based animation ECD university to date.
Backed by reach across 200+ kids, parents and schools in three countries the US, Canada, and Europe after our prototypic research for value additions in ECD space changing the trend.
Valid 37000 current subscribers in just 1 year without marketing.

Scale: Describe how your idea could reach a significant number of end-users. (1500 characters)

Feasibility: Where are you with understanding the feasibility of your idea? Describe what you’ve done so far and your plans. (3000 characters)

We launched, piloted and tested well in last 18 months putting saving from our own pockets as volunteers. We just need funds and the right partner to grow to next level of scalability hiring more employees and investment in our animation studio which is too expensive.

Business Viability: How viable is your business model? (1500 characters)

It's highly viable model. We have brought this under not for profit because we want to reach masses and making it affordable for everyone for as low as $1/subcribers.

With initial seed money and investment to scale this project up to 1000+ animation lessons, we will reach up to 100K subscribers and charging $1 will bring 100K USD revenue that will make us sustainable by 2020.

HCD: How have you used human centered design to build or refine your concept? (1500 characters)

We have done focus group across different schools, children parks and 5 ECD schools in US with around 200+ families to pilot this idea success taking their suggestions for improvement based on real human experiences and uptake.

Also, big-time players like Aga Khan Development Network who are present in 37 countries and Rupani Foundation in 3 countries serving in ECD education have accepted our content and started using it for free in their outreach benefitting over 50,000 children for free in developing countries.
We are also learning from their ongoing feedback and suggestions improvising our videos.

Tell us more about you (3000 characters)

1. This idea came from looking at a live interaction at immigration counter while traveling from an assignment where a kid was not co-operating with officer allowing him to take his photo snap. their parents tried everything but the smart officer took out his phone and played cartoon app to convince kid and he got settled so quickly with smiling face. Viola! I realized from this real human interaction what a child loves. Yes, this was cartoon animations which attract his attention.

2. What excites me about this space is that nothing is much done.

Do you have the people and partners you need to do what you’ve described? (500 characters)

We are partnering with mentors in ECD space and learning from our live learnings giving free access to ECD schools to learn from their real-time feedback and suggestions.
We have also partnered with USAID in Khorog, Tajikistan and are trying to learn from their traditional reading books making cartoon animations out of them for future use of all.

As you consider your next steps, what kinds of help could you use? Is there a type of expertise that would be most helpful? (1800 characters)

We need high-level 3D cartoon experts which we have shortlisted to be hired. Just need funds to scale it! Also have list of best alumni from Graphic and Animation schools.
