Many children loose their teeth at their early age just because of early childhood curries ,this leaves them affected for their rest of their lives if not treated. With equipping parents/care gives with tooth brushing and florid varnish application will give a chance to the children even the poor to have early childhood curries free lives since the parents will act as the dentists at home.

Tell us more about your innovation (1500 characters)

Baby teeth serve several important functions that aid in your child’s development. They help in the development of speech and they hold space for the future adult teeth. Finally, a smile can help to build a child's self confidence and social skills. This is always hindered by the dental cavities which are the most common childhood disease and are preventable: The idea is to train and equip parents with the child tooth brushing skills, florid varnish application through use of social media where training videos will be shared,Mobile application where where parents can contact our doctors in case of any oral health issue, face to face training sessions conducted in pre-schools and nursery schools together with every Friday oral and nutrition free services offered at our clinics all over Uganda.

What problem are you aiming to solve? (3 sentences)

Dental caries is the most common chronic disease of childhood in the United States. Children with cavities can experience painful infections and have problems with eating, speaking and learning. ECC significantly affect the growth and development of preschool children eg leads to retarded growth of the child ,high expenditures by families on planned surgeries and general disturbance of care givers /parents.

Explain your idea (5000 characters)

IMPORT aims to use both social media and face to face platforms to carry out parental toothbrushing and florid varnish application training as a mechanism of prevention of the Early Childhood Carries for parents and care givers of the children in Kampala Uganda . Social Media ;CDARH, is to develop and share educative cartoons showing how properly to brush the child's teeth and how to properly apply florid varnish as ways to prevent early childhood carries .In case a parent is seeking treatment of these curries ,he /she will be required to book an appointment by use of social media and our toll free line . free e-doctors consultations will be offered still by the two platforms. For patents not using social media, face to face training sessions will be carried out every Friday at 5pm at our clinics and outreaches will be made to schools to train children care givers in schools. All the training will be free of charge and factory price of the florid varnish at all clinics: The project is also to use the teeth mobile application which will be containing all the required information about symptoms and signs of early childhood carries :Training videos on how to clean the baby's teeth and how to apply florid varnish will be uploaded on this preform for every one to access free of charge: Testimonies of the beneficiaries will be also uploaded to educate parents on the benefit of prevention of carries :

How does or how could your idea impact low-income children? (1500 characters)

In Uganda services are for the well off just because of the high prices associated with the acquiring the services. The idea is targeting the low income occupancy areas and on top of that give factory price for florid varnish and free training.

Dear Agaba Peter ,

Few days ago we shared with you the invitation to the two webinars in which you will have a chance to hear more about the Prize and ask any questions about the process. Knowing that the sponsor seeks solutions from all over the world that can be implemented in the United States, I think this is a great opportunity to hear any questions you may have on how to develop
your idea along this goal. And many other aspects of the Prize and human-centered design.

We’ll be hosting calls on Tuesday, December 5, 4:30 - 5:30 PM PST (https://ideo.zoom.us/webinar/register/WN_ZxbEbA4rRPid02QEos1VtQ) and Wednesday, December 6 (https://ideo.zoom.us/webinar/register/WN_8ZHf8DakS4WWqAXsN_jhQQ) 08:00 - 9:00 AM PST.

In case you cant make it, feel free to email us any question you may have at ecprize@ideo.com!, and we’ll do our best to answer it during the webinar.

Looking forward to seeing you next week,
Iliriana

Hey Agaba Peter ,

Thank you for sharing with us your inspiration to improve children's dental health in Kampala. You are trying to make an important difference in their lives and helping their parents as well. It is very obvious that you are passionate and ambitious to see the change and impact. The Early Childhood Innovation Prize is seeking solutions that can be implemented in the United States. When you get a chance, take a look at these challenge descriptions, one of which states that "if you are an innovator from another part of the world, we welcome your participation and ask that you address how your solution fits into the early childhood context in the United States."

You can read more about the details in the following link: https://openideo.com/ecprize?_ga=2.163527868.1214496839.1509368775-942300124.1503532734

I hope these guides will help you align the idea further to the challenge and collect valuable feedback from our community.

Best regards,
Iliriana

Dear Agaba,
Thank you for your question. You can find additional information about the Prize guidelines at the website https://openideo.com/ecprize, and also checkout the Frequently Asked Questions.

To answer your question, The GCI foundation is excited about ideas that can radically transform the early childhood development field and are seeking ideas and inspiration from around the world. That said, ideally ideas could be implemented in the US eventually–that doesn't mean you need to be currently registered in the US only that you have plans to make your idea feasible in the US in the near future.

The OpenIDEO platform is built on the value of the human-centered design, which puts the end beneficiary at the center of the process, and uses the identified needs to build the solution. Feel free to reach out to and utilize the Early Childhood Prize community to help identity needs and benefits in in the United States for the solution you are proposing.

Hope this helps.

Best regards,
Iliriana
