You are welcome

No matter how to start your day

What you wear, when/how you pray

Or if you come from far far away

You are welcome here

You are special just being who you are

In our park we are all gather, we all take part

Some families are small

Some families are big

Some families are the same colors

Some families are in different colors

Some families come with one mom

Some families come with one dad

Some families come with both mom and dad

But all families like to hug each other

You all are welcome here

We play around, we make art

We share our stories from the heart

Joys are the same

Love is the same

Pain is the same

Blood is the same

Smiles are the same

Hearts are the same

Now look at your skin

And the skin all people live in

Think how lucky you are

That the skin you live in,

So beautifully hold the you within

We all are special and different

And just the same, too!

You are more than you seem

You are all that you think and

You hope and you dream

You are all welcome here

Now Head for home to get some rest

Greet tomorrow, ready and fresh

Are time together is the best

You all are welcome here

Please describe any familiarity you may have with Philadelphia and its residents? (optional question)

No, we don't have any familiarity with lifestyle of Philly but we are researching on it side by side.

How have you crafted this manuscript to resonate with and/or reflect the experiences of those living in urban contexts? (optional question)

We strongly believe that love, compassion, acceptance, empathy and gratitude are universal traits regardless of ethnicity, race, color and region. The children development with strong values should be inculcated from the beginning, and this is the soul of our work. It is the right of every single child to be able to experience moral values at early age. By taking a part of this challenge, we would like to share our creative contributions for the child development. Furthermore, we will be translating the finalized manuscript in Urdu for our local community as well.

Tell us more about you / your team

I am Khadija . I are from North Pakistan. From where I belong, our core values include gratitude, acceptance and empathy. The inspiration for the characters came to me quite quickly. After spending time in the day care center of our university, I was able to develop an understanding of how caregivers interact with children. This helped me in developing the stories and since I have been making illustrations so I visualize the story first before finding the words for it.

Provide an example visual identity for a look and feel you might like to achieve. ( (optional question, 3-5 visuals)

Hi khadija chishti  Welcome to the Challenge Community once again :) !
Loved how this story talks about acknowledging the differences and celebrating the similarities between different people and races. Very lovely.
How might you evolve your manuscript to create nudges of engagement and interaction for caregivers, to help them with their child’s learning development as they narrate the story ? You can find some inspiration in the Featured Suggestion and Challenge Resources listed on the challenge Page.

You also may want to consider how your reader and listener can engage more with the text. Will you have questions? Sounds? Dialogue? That is one of the evaluation criteria so you might want to revisit that component.

Roseanne Frank Thanks again...Can you give me any example what is your mind about the sounds and dialogues?

You can change this section to include or be all dialogue. As if a child is observing the diverse families, perhaps. "Hey, they have three people in their family." "Theirs is HUGE."
You'd have to work it out. But you can trust the illustrator to bring out the meaning of what you write.
Some families are small
Some families are big
Some families are the same colors
Some families are in different colors
Some families come with one mom
Some families come with one dad
Some families come with both mom and dad
But all families like to hug each other

In this sentence:
We play around, we make art
How are they playing? Musical instruments make sounds, whooping! makes a sound, giggling and laughing etc.
What art are they making? Paint? Are they slapping paint? Slap! Swath! Smoosh!

I think you get the idea. These are just suggestions off the top of my head but you have to make it your own. And take what you feel applies. I hope I helped.

Khadija this is indeed a wonderful way of embracing all of us. You may just want to explore so form of dialogue for interaction between the caregiver and the child.

Very nice! I like the rhythm and the sentiments expressed! The second sentence has a typo (change "to" to "you"). Also, consider that many children have more than one mother and/or more than one father. Thanks for sharing!

Hi Khadija - what a lovely sentiment. I was thrown a bit in the beginning because it seemed like it was setting up to rhyme but then it didn't. I think you need to decide if it's prose or not because that helps the reader predict. . Keep editing. Pick out your best parts and you're on your way.
