All living things in different regions on the planet need our never ending care.

The snow still lies on the mountains

The grass still sways on the plains

The fish still swim in the oceans

The plants still grow when it rains

The clouds still form in the desert

The animals still live in the wild

The trees still stand in the forest

The people still sing to a child

The sun will shine on our faces

Giving warmth to bodies and hearts

The moon will shine on our love

We know we'll never be apart

Planet Earth is a place of great beauty

For all living things to share

We protect the air, the land, the water

Gifts to our children that need care

Describe the intended vision for your early childhood book manuscript in 1-2 sentences

In honor of Earth Day's 50th birthday in 2020, climate change is an important topic for city and rural dwellers alike. The manuscript is hopeful and expresses the love of nature and family, but also a reminder to parents in how we must live in a changing environment.

The Beauty of Earth title reflects the content of the manuscript. This writer is open to other suggestions!

How has this book been informed by early childhood language development research and evidence? (response minimum 250 Characters)

The manuscript is dependent on lovely illustrative or photographed images that reflect each sentence per page. Vocabulary and the beauty of earth give language and cognitive development to the child. The reminder to parents is also here - what we do now effects the world our babies will live in.

Please describe any familiarity you may have with Philadelphia and its residents? (optional question)

My son and his wife live in Philadelphia. We enjoy the city as visitors and have stayed in many neighborhoods.

How have you crafted this manuscript to resonate with and/or reflect the experiences of those living in urban contexts? (optional question)

This manuscript indirectly reflects city life - we are all interconnected on the planet. The air, land and water must be used in a mindful way in the city as it has impact everywhere.

My career has been a Montessori educator, director, administrator, business owner and teacher trainer for 40 years. I have founded and owned a school, and have been a consultant and director for public and private schools in MN. My training is in children ages birth to 6 years. I also have a degree in child psychology and studied in fine arts. For decades I have used the Montessori method to teach children to read. I understand the importance of learning to read by grades 2-3 in order to have a solid foundation in reading to learn. I've appreciated the work of many authors and illustrations over the decades of my teaching career. I also know voids in the area of early childhood literature that I would like to see filled. This contest is a first for me - an opportunity to use rhyme and repetition in order to grab the baby's ear and memory for language acquisition.

Hi Lisa Carver  Welcome to the Challenge Community once again :) !
Absolutely loved this story, more than even the last one. You've touch upon such a valuable lesson for caregiver to keep the environment for their children, and how.
Just like my last suggestion, I feel you can make this story a little more conversational between the parent and the child, to make it a lot more engaging and personal. Look forward to reading the edits

Hi Itika - I am currently in the Navajo Nation and will be without internet service until the weekend. The Beauty of Earth and my other manuscripts will have to wait for edits until I get back online. Thank you for your comment and I'll work on making it more engaging and personal!

Hello! I added a stanza to The Beauty of Earth with a suggestion that it should be more personal. Additions of warmth of sun and moon shining on love indicate the connection between parent and child. Thank for the encouragement to edit!
