He digs around for an old yellow boot and I dig around too.

He rolls on the green grass and I roll on it too.

I intend for the child, as well as the caregiver, to enjoy reading this story about something familiar, in a fresh, new way, while learning colors. I also intend, if I am given the chance, to create a series based on this first book. The series would be, 'I love my (baby animal)'. For example, 'I love my kitten', 'I love my piggy', 'I love my bunny', etc. each teaching of a particular concept for that age group.

How has this book been informed by early childhood language development research and evidence? (response minimum 250 Characters)

As psychologist Alison Gopnik explained, I think that my book centers on the curiosity and intelligence of the baby as he/she interacts with the environment. In the story the reader makes observations of another living thing and draws similarities between this outside entity and himself/herself. During the reading process, the understanding and knowledge takes root in the reader's mind in a positive and character-building way. The book is very interactive as it describes actions that the reader can do while reading with the caregiver. These actions makes reading come alive, and that will only nurture a love for reading into childhood. The story allows for conversation, as the caregiver can ask questions to further stimulate the child's thinking about other activities that are done with the pet. The use of repetition allows the child to engage in the story as he/she 'reads' along with the caregiver. The use of repetition is an effective tool that early learning specialists use.

How have you crafted this manuscript to resonate with and/or reflect the experiences of those living in urban contexts? (optional question)

First of all, this story is about fun and excitement while teaching about colors. Anyone, and certainly those from Philadelphia can use this story as a tool to promote gender, racial and economic neutrality. That is because people from all backgrounds own, or wish to own a pet. This means that readers will be able to relate to the story, giving ownership of the activities within. The manuscript will certainly take the reader to a familiar, happy place and as the child shares positive bonding with the pet, as well as the reading caregiver, this will reflect future positive attitudes during learning activities.
