This year I was invited to the World Literacy Summit at Oxford. It is imperiative that all children obtain skills not only from static text but that their words are embedded with multi-sensory learning. Kids need books that see, move, interact, and touch all aspects transform reading from being static to imperitaive cognitive connections that enhance neural growth. Optimal neural growth needs all of these components to transcend a child from illiteracy into enabled linguistic acquisition mode.

 (Dream beam will be a rainbow road of colors through the book.This teaches colors and symbolic of Phili’s rich diversity.)

Through the city and to the zoo!

The duck boats dash...

The cars go zoom..

Our neighbors will wave...

Our feet will walk...

Slow and fast!

Here to there!

Oh, what a blast!

We are ready!

We are set!

Describe the intended vision for your early childhood book manuscript in 1-2 sentences

My intended vision for my early childhood book manuscript is to have ages 0-3 engaged in an interactive text that meets the needs of the child and caregiver. The text will be embedded with multi-sensory, kinesthetic supports that meets the literacy needs of this age group. phonics development.... all sounds integrated in final text fluency development....repitition and learning of all sounds.... comprehension development...multi-sensory/kinesthetic for all learning styles

How has this book been informed by early childhood language development research and evidence? (response minimum 250 Characters)

In 2018 I was invited to the World Literacy Summit at Oxford. I have been engaged with literacy research for over 10 years and this text has research based integration to meet The text the needs of all learners ages 0-3. My literacy research and practice has enabled me to ensure that all students I work with meet or exceed stamine growth within a specified timeline. This knowledge has been embedded in Dream Beams and ensures literacy attainment that will foster the necessary skills that begin at or around age 3. Literacy attainment is so much more than static text. It involves coupling multi sensory, kinestheitc and self efficacy devices to ensure optimal cognitive and social behavorial development! Please describe any familiarity you may have with Philadelphia and its residents? (optional question)

I was born in Philadelphia and know that caregivers there are a complex network. I also know the literacy needs of the children who reside in Philadelphia and how comprehension of text is often difficult, as evidenced via a triangulation of DATA, due to not having the critical literacy foundation from birth to age three. Phonics is a crtitical component of literacy attainment and meeting the learning styles of all learners is a vital part of the puzzle. This book is embedded with the auditory, sensory, textual, visual and spatial learning to facilitate the needs of all learners and provide a bonding and pratical approach for the caregiver!

How have you crafted this manuscript to resonate with and/or reflect the experiences of those living in urban contexts? (optional question)

I have crafted the manuscipt to resonate with the experiences of those living in urban contexts as there is a zoo in most urban cities that can be visited. There will also be pages of images and a possible animal puppet in the book! For Philly... the Philly Bee.... Philadelphia Eagles.... and Bee for embedding knowledge into each and every child one at a time..... A video of animals could also possibly be embedded and/or animal sounds! The water is also somewhere that caretakers could take their child. There is a seaport, lake, pond, or park in major urban areas.

A multi-sensory, kinethetic book for 0-3 that incorporates all the senses which are essential for literacy attentainment in the areas of phonics, fluency and comprehsnion! A text to enhance not only the literacy attainment of the child but also a bonding experience for the child and caretaker! Incorporates static text that is coupled with multi-sensory components.

Hi Mary Ressler welcome to the Challenge Community!
Its a really interesting way you have scripted your story with questions and answers from the caregiver, really helps with making the book a medium of interaction between the caregiver and the child.
How might you evolve the script to introduce literacy learning elements like alphabets, words, numbers etc to allow the care giver to also teach the child as they read out to them ?

The pocket puppet will SIGN the letters to not only teach letters but language development.

Velcro letters....on on each page will transcend literacy development for the older child in playing a puzzle to remove and then say each letter as they work together to find their homes/spots!

Numbers will be with the animals and the places they go pages...


Numbers will be embedded on How many do we see page and How many can we make page.... merging basic concepts with a scaffolded approach for the 2-3 year old!

Phonics builds fluency and then then of course comprehension so this basis is the utmost important. Phonological awareness will be the keystone and integrated in a scaffold manor....by a sign language base.......sound page...for auditory.....Velcro page for kinesthetic...the letter game for letter recognition and the pocket puppet for creative expression and fluency building.....

All of my students based on a triangulation of data at the middle level improve their stanines by 6months to 3 years! I want to ensure that the foundational levels have the tools necessary as well!

The rainbow cover could even be made out of something that is like a write on board and uses with just a finger to make letters.

My daughter couldn’t comprehend in second grade and I didn’t have the support necessary to understand and correct the issues. I went to school and studied how to assess and correct literacy deficiencies. Out of this endeavor has come not only national awards but I was also invited to the Wild Literacy Summit.

I just took out many words to meet the 250 word limit. I missed that part initially! I’ll have to edit the attached version! The script is done with interaction of words... numbers etc now!

Yes, the complexity of your idea and word count makes it challenging, and the simpler for this exercise, the better--adults can get a supplement on how to do the dialogue with kids. Story needs to be kept simple. Sheila Lewis

Making their dreams a reality would be the best...
So many inner city youth are plagued by the burdens of social- economics... crime... etc.
The bridge out of there is to ensure the dreams of these kids is nourished from birth and transform the 10,000..... who will then transform a generation....

Interesting. I think that in the manuscript after you write: /learning, you should leave out the other details about the song, out. You can incorporate it somewhere else.

And what if a series could then follow that went through their phonics... linguistic...cognitive etc development..... bc literacy needs reimagined... multitudes of students aren’t reading on grade level due to teaching geared to static text....

and data followed these kids kids from birth to age 18..... I’d be 65 then... ha!
.... and to see / trace educational journey of the group...

Money from these books could then be given to the kids who tested them for furthering or bettering themselves and or community-
