Churro is a corgi that is from Mexico. His family just came to the US and they do not speak the language. Churro’s mom says to him that he will be going to a new school and will meet new friends and a teacher. Churro is scared and says that he wants to stay at home with her. Churro’s mom takes him to his room and says that his new school is a place to learn wonderful things. Churro says that he has no friends. His mom says that he will be making new friends. Mom says don't worry Churro if you need any help your teacher is there. Plus if you ever feel lonely and sad you can look at this picture (Churro's family).

How has this book been informed by early childhood language development research and evidence? (response minimum 250 Characters)

As an educator, it is important to choose books with a wide variety of vocabulary words, animals, colors, clothing. The main character in the book is a dog. The story can relate with children who are newcomers and anxious about starting school. Equally to families, it is not easy to send their children when they have a challenge with the language. Also, there are not enough books representing the second-language learners’ struggles specially for early childhood.

How have you crafted this manuscript to resonate with and/or reflect the experiences of those living in urban contexts? (optional question)

Moving to a new country can be overwhelming and a stressful situation, often children have to leave their homes and schools and start a new life. The first day of school can be a difficult experience for both the child and the family. Often children have different experiences where one child can be confident and have a good experience and for others can be a very stressful experience.
