5th grader creates e-waste recycling project at her school as part of her design project

My daughter, Jessie, designed, communicated and carried out an e-waste collection and recycling project for her 5th grade design project. She ensured responsible recycling in the US and raised money for her school. Are we smarter than a 5th grader?

My 11-year old daughter needed to come up with a project for her 5th grade design lab project.  She wanted to do something that would help the environment and teach her something.  She decided to create an electronics waste collection program pilot project to see if this is something that would work at her school.

She worked with her teacher and the Principal to figure out logistics, sent out multiple communications to the school & community and helped organize it to be recycled in a responsible manner in California.  She helped people get rid of their waste responsibly, taught her classmates about the importance of doing this properly, learned a great deal, earned a great deal of confidence and even raised a little money for the school!

It was a win-win-win experience and her Principal wants to roll it out to other schools in the area as well.  Jessie will be helping and taking it to her Middle School next year!
