Project Love: Africa
Inclusion and Love for All

What problem does your idea solve?
“Inclusion and Love for All…” I want to help create a world that is just as seamless for someone in a wheelchair to navigate as it is for a person walking on two feet. I envision a society where, no matter how extreme your size, disability, or difference, you will feel empowered to express your individuality, and won’t have to settle for fewer resources than the rest of the world. I want the limits to come off of those who society has marginalized. I want everyone in the feel equally special.
Explain your idea
We want to create a maker space and shop where everyone is welcome! There, we will teach community members (of any ability) how to create (design and build) and sell clothing, footwear, and product that are optimized for the specific needs of the clients who will come to the shop. We will use traditional sewing machines and fabrics as well as 3D print footwear, apparel and products.
Some of the many affordable custom clothing that I have created for clients over the years! I work with people of all shapes, sizes and abilities and I help them to feel happy and beautiful!
Everyone, who comes into the space. We will not discriminate. All are welcome to learn and participate. This space will exclude no one.
Many of the creations that I have helped people to make who take my classes. I can teach large of small groups of people on how to use new machinery, software, sewing equipment 3D printers, laser cutters, and so much more. I am able to reach more people by adapting my lessons, to their unique learning style.
How is your idea unique?
We are not looking to "fix" or even "help" anyone. We want to spread love, acceptance, and empowerment to all who enter our space. We want to create for them, but also teach them how to use the latest technology (like 3d printing) to meet their needs.
Tell us more about you
I am an inventor, designer, teacher, and dreamer as well as an avid participant in technology, fashion and mass customization of apparel and footwear.
I have been working as an instructor at a wonderful maker space called the TechShop for over a year and a designer and product developer for over 12 years. I've worked on many projects for for people with varying levels if disability, and I hope to encourage our community to experiment with the machines so they may also begin creating!
