Remote Criminal

Cyber-hacking is remote crime, because it is both remote in its practice and location. Arguably the most dangerous of the lot.

Sketch 1 (1,500 characters)

My final draft is intended to take the topic of hacking out of the abstract facade. The idea of hacking and cybersecurity is abstract and misrepresented as it is, there is a need to dumb it down and allude to the truth - Hacking is remote meaning that the act doesn't require a concrete location - Scary how they could quite literally be everywhere from anywhere.

What have you learned through this sketching process? (1,000 characters)

I have learnt that ideas and inspiration can come from anywhere and while you build the idea, more solutions become apparent. You can never really say a craft is finished, there will always be an extra step to make it better.

Tell us more about you. (1,000 characters)

My name is Ray, I am a proud South African creator that has/will always had/have a passion for visuals (eye candy). I believe that an image that is powerful enough can engage change through shifting peoples perspectives. If you show them a representation of something in a way that they never thought of, they may never think of the subject in the same light ever again. I believe that concept is the best way for sharing ideas because we are visual learners and images stick with us far longer than words. It's extremely difficult to share an idea directly from your head, if you can draft a visual then less of your idea is up to interpretation from the other party. Concept images get everyone on the same page quicker.

Why are you participating in this Challenge? (750 characters)

I find it scary how technophobic and oblivious society really is, The power of hacking exploits our disillusion and I want to change that. I work, especially often, with technology and I believe that the relationship between man and machine should progress the human race and not hinder it. It's shocking how the tool that can catapult us into the future may very easily become a tool of regression. Most of all, i believe that our privacy is the one thing that should be forever upheld and breach-free.

Hello Ray Lagesse  Happy to see your contribution to the Cybersecurity challenge. Great style!! How would you consider pushing this idea further? We've had a large number of very interesting creations, have you had a chance to browse other submissions? There's a very interesting conversation around cybersecurity going on!

Hi Dima, it is a very interesting and overlooked topic - great experience so far.

I have seen the other submissions - I admire some work and believe that others didn't internalize the brief accurately (No slander intended, just my honest opinion.)

In terms of pushing my idea further, I would make get more insights from your side (experienced insights), adding nuanced details that communicate the idea of remote crime more efficiently and removing certain elements that you feel may distract your prospective audience.

I made use of unpurchased stock photography to push the idea, if I am shortlisted then I will sharpen and build upon what I have created in a more realistic fashion - one that can be projected in large resolution.

Creating a mystical scene alludes to the stand out character, being the hacker, as if to say that he is polluting the beauty and purity of his environment - contrasting blackhat hacking with the desecration of resources (pollution).

I have seen a couple ideas that are similar to my concept but simpler in execution. I hope that this answers your question extensively.

Please, if you haven't already, check out my attached concept summary and walkthrough PDF.

Thanks again :)
