Sketch 1 (1,500 characters)

Encryption is fantastically simple in principle, but - no doubt, incredibly complex to deliver in practice. The visuals are typographic as this technique relays a more intuitive explanation. This work aims to demonstrate the simplicity of the idea i.e make the message unintelligible even if the route is unsecured - then put it back together again at the receiving end. As a commonplace security technique, the contemporary imagery availble is somewhat lacking and misleading. The general icons used are locks and keys. These icons imply that some form of 'safe box' is used to protect data when, in fact, the security is derived from making the data unintelligible when in transit.

Sketch 2 (1,500 characters)

These images aim to demonstrate what is happening during the encryption process in a moe dynamic way.

What have you learned through this sketching process? (1,000 characters)

Encryption is powerful as it does not need the route to be secure - it works because it makes things incomprehensible in transmission - even if they are intercepted.

Why are you participating in this Challenge? (750 characters)

I am not an illustrator but a product designer. This challenge gave me the opportunity to convey messages. Learning more about the subject is fascinating and interesting in the sense that human motivations are the drives - the technology merely empowers them.

You're second sketch is fantastic imo. I really love what you have done with the white on read/scattered words. Makes the concept approachable and draws you in visually.
