I've got a feeling... somebody's watching me.
Surveillance is scary.
Sketch 1 (1,500 characters)
I remember when i first started getting targeting adverts shown to me whilst on the internet. Now, these adverts seam to be so specific and appear so fast. Its definitely got to the point where i think, how do they know to show to me this? I was only just speaking about this to a friend?
It makes you think... what do these companies and governments know about me? I think privacy and data protection is a really interesting subject at the moment, especially with GDPR being introduced last may and a bit more awareness of peoples rights as data subjects. But I do think privacy/surveillance is still not understood or talked about enough.

What have you learned through this sketching process? (1,000 characters)
I chose to use owls for the illustration, looking right out at you from the computer, as owls have those big piercing eyes and often patrol the shadows of night. Interestingly enough, i didn't draw eyes on these owls. This was mainly due to time constraints, but actually it's quite thematic that in this illustration you cant see the eyes looking at you.
Tell us more about you. (1,000 characters)
I grew up in a rural village in the north east of England, I went to university to study Fine Art, I've had various office jobs. I am pretty much your everyday, incredibly average, non-technical young professional. That was until 15 months ago, when I unexpectedly found myself working as an account manager at a cyber security consultancy. Now I spend most days talking to clients about their experiences and issues, advising on how they can improve their data and information security.
I am constantly shocked and saddened when hearing clients stories about their experiences with the cyber world, how it's affected their businesses in terms of reputation and finances, even more so when a lot of issues might never have happened with simple preventative actions.
Why are you participating in this Challenge? (750 characters)
My name is James Moffitt. I studied Fine Art at Falmouth University and after I graduated worked in a number of industries including renewable energy and more recently security.
I work as an Account Manager at a Cyber Security consultancy, but outside of my nine to five job i take on freelance illustration work.
As i work in Cyber Security and also illustration, i thought the challenge would be an interesting opportunity to take part in. It has already pushed me outside my comfort zone, as my normal illustrative style lends itself to children book illustration, which i am currently working on both illustrations for a clients book and one i have written myself.
