Sketch 1 (1,500 characters)

The original approach with this sketch was to focus on how you can manage cyber security by yourself. How important is for each individual to be educated in this field and to fully acknowledge it’s priority, in order to take care of his personal cyber space. Much later in the process of creating I thought of the people who work in cyber security related positions. So in that train of thought I tried to also visualise the “protagonist” , rather than to focus on the “antagonist” (hacker/bad guy). Therefore the illustration not only doesn’t contain any typical, negative elements but focuses on a more leisure theme and also showcases that with enough knowledge, technology and awareness, anyone is capable of creating a “safe zone” for their data and valuable information. I respected the given guidelines made for Hewlett Foundation and tried to bring some human touch in the illustration and avoid all the cliques.

Sketch 2 (1,500 characters)

The main idea behind this illustration is that you should treat cyber security the way you treat the security of your own home. Both are extremely important and if taken lightly could lead to disastrous consequences. Therefore we went with the cyber puppy reference. It's used to portray the "guardian" in a virtual space. The background is used as a metaphor, which describes cyberspace as a home environment.

What have you learned through this sketching process? (1,000 characters)

I learned that cyber security is an issue and raising awareness in an unconventional way can prevent unnecessary effects, which in a modern and technical world as ours, are very much not needed.

Tell us more about you. (1,000 characters)

I am a visual designer and a project manager by profession. When designing I usually work with metaphors as a method to communicate a message. I believe that design is a very powerful information tool, which when used correctly can make a difference.

Why are you participating in this Challenge? (750 characters)

To try and promote a problem, which hopefully will raise awareness and more people will understand the scale and importance of cyber security. Also I really wanted to check and validate my skills by competing with other extremely creative and talented people.

What is your experience with the field of cybersecurity?

  • I have never worked in cybersecurity before but am excited to learn more and get involved.

What best describes you?

  • I’m a professional visual creator affiliated with an organization.
