I recently worked with a team at Juniper Networks to create a picture book that illustrates security threats and solutions for IT admins.

Sketch 1 (1,500 characters)

Sketch 2 (1,500 characters)

I wanted to show a variety of different types of threats -- from malignant cells in a data stream, an intruder going in through an open back door, and arrows raining down on a shield or rain and thunder, to represent denial of service attacks.

What have you learned through this sketching process? (1,000 characters)

I don't think I really scratched the surface of different visual metaphors for this topic, but it was interesting to try to represent it like a video game, where there are different tools / weapons that work for different threats.

Tell us more about you. (1,000 characters)

I'm an illustrator / comics creator / user experience designer who has been working in the technology field for over 20 years. I teach classes in how to use simple symbols and sketches to communicate complicated technical ideas and user scenarios. I also draw storyboards and book illustrations.

Why are you participating in this Challenge? (750 characters)

A friend referred me to this challenge, so I thought I'd share some of the recent work I did for Juniper Networks, since it sounded related / relevant. It's always challenging to come up with new and simple visual symbols for complicated concepts, but it's also really rewarding, because it opens the doors of understanding to people who may not be deeply immersed in the field and its concerns.

Welcome to the challenge Debora Aoki . Dima here, I am here to support you in the process. One thing I like about your submission is the storytelling process in the storyboard.
How would you consider pushing your submission further?
How can we tell a story through one combined visual?

I can’t wait to see how this progresses next, and don't forget to check out Hewlett's tip of the week on the brief page!
