Companies and governments are accessing a lot of data from internet users.

Many mobile app developers have misused app permissions and compromised on user's privacy. Many apps leak sensitive information to other apps or companies. Users do not pay much attention to privacy policies due to a lack of awareness and end up agreeing to them. Sensitive information such as location is always given to a few apps. This data may be misused.
Companies in the advertising business try to gather a lot of data about users to target ads to the right audience. The ethics of this data gathering is questionable. Improvements in Artificial intelligence technology has helped in inferring information from data. Lawmakers and the public should be more aware of how their data is gathered and what implications it has.
This concept does find some inspiration from the novel 1984 and how there is constant monitoring of citizens.
Sketch 2 (1,500 characters)
The increase in the number of automated devices which are connected (IoT), can also be used for surveillance and breaching privacy. AI can also be used to find out a lot about an individual. Having so many connected devices it becomes hard to have privacy.
