Droodles, forget you are a grow up!

Check out this new series of National Geographic called “Brain Games”. I found very interesting the chapter “Use it or lose it” where they talk about how to train your brain like a muscle for increasing the flexibility.

In this chapter, T here is a section about “Droodles”. Droodles, according to Scott Barry Kaufman a cognitive scientist from NYU, is a good test method for diverging thinking.

It consists in a series of simple drawings of objects that doesn’t have a lot of meaning, that are shown to the participants and they have to come up with as much as possible ideas of what this object could be. Surprisingly, adults are not very good with this test. But instead kids nail it!

This is because kids don’t have any rigid categories of what they see, while adults try to define a given image.

You will see in the video that they encourage you to forget that you are a grown up. Thinking like a kid will allow you to open yourself and with that comes a world of ideas.

What are these barriers that don't let adults to think flexible and come with a lot of ideas, letting the imagination to be free?

I did too! It was interesting to see how different the first and second try went. I definitely did better the second time.
