Despite being an amateur maker/tinkerer, I am comfortable taking on complicated projects at TechShop because there are Dream Consultants on staff to help me out at any stage. They help, I learn, and I keep on being creative!
TechShop is a space that exists in a handful of cities around the US. It is a huge makerspace (metalshop, woodshop, laser cutters, sewing machines, 3D printers, etc.) that offers members access for a monthly membership. They offer basic-advanced classes on all of the machinery and equipment. The best thing about the space is the knowledgeable staff. I have a lot of creativity, but more often than not I have found that I lack confidence in attempting projects because I am afraid that I will slip up or not know how to complete a specific stage. At TechShop, whenever I get to a step that I struggle with, I can ask for help from the on-staff Dream Consultants or from another member of the community. That way I learn how to do it, I build confidence, and can proceed with my work. I also build great relationships with some amazing people!
I wonder what sort of people or services (online or offline) could serve as 'dream consultants' to inspire creative confidence in a younger audience.
