The classroom will become a discussion room, a place where the children bring ideas to explore in the classroom. Every class will be lead by the children's idea or question.
Much like Montessori schools, educational institutions will be redesigned so that k-8 students can be independent about their learning. As seen on PBS Sid the Science Kid, children will be able to lead a class discussion based on their ideas from home. Whether it be exploring why fruit decays, or social behaviors; children will have the independence to guide their learning. The idea is that school will be set up to be from 9am-3pm with students given time to explore their topics, a discussion, play time and closings. The teacher will guide the discussion or exploring for 2-3 hours. During this time children will be allowed to first independently explore for an answer and then meet to discuss their findings. The next block of time will be designated for playtime, here children will be encouraged to use their new findings to develop games or even new ideas. The last hour of class will be used to for closing discussion and showcasing all of the new things learned. The homework will be to bring a new idea to talk about. Giving every child an opportunity to talk about a topic their interested in.
Children will be put in classrooms of 6-8 students with one or two teachers
Teachers will only guide the conversation ensuring that children stay on or close to their chosen topic
The classroom will be democratic, children will vote on their topics perhaps Monday there will be a vote for topics for the week. With topics being covered in order of votes. Children may request a another vote session in the middle of the week.
