Create YOUR Journal

Inspired by the concept of the existing "Wreck this Journal", a 'Create YOUR Journal' is a creative twist on this fun concept. The idea is to have a pre-fabricated journal vaguely direct you to do something different and record it each day.

When I discovered these journals, I was in absolute Awe.  I thought this concept was such a fun idea, and even though I wasn't someone who kept a journal, it was enticing enough to make me want to start one, but only if it was a 'wreck this journal'.  

The idea is simple, the journal is pre-made with daily instructions as to how one should vaguely go about filling the page.  To twist on this concept for our challenge would be to redefine a 'Wreck This Journal' and cater it to enhance and expand on creativity, making it a 'Create YOUR Journal' instead!  Ideas such as "cover this page with your favorite materials to draw a picture" or "using objects found in nature create a few structures, then take a picture of them and glue your pictures to this page".  

This 'Create YOUR Journal' has the potential to teach a number of creative lessons, such as:
- Brainstorming ideas
- Thinking outside the box
- Idea sharing
- Directed creativity
- Self expression
- Diverse thinking
- Problem solving
- ETC....

The best part of this journal would be the sharing process.  It would empower children to share creative ideas without fear because there is no pressure behind the works created.  It is essentially individuals expressing their ideas and seeing how others expressed the same idea in a different manner, while at the same time working the creative part of your brain on a regular basis in a very fun way!

The repetition of creative activity and teaching the perspective of sharing ideas for constructive fun, and without fear, are the main creative confidence boosters behind this idea.

In this challenge, we want to create ideas with young people, not for them. Outline how you’re planning to involve young people or other end-users (parents, teachers, etc) in designing, iterating or testing your idea during the Ideas phase.

This would be an extremely fun project to prototype! I would like to brainstorm with the demographics involved to see what kind of ideas work best for which age groups, and hash out ideas with other creatives to see what would be fun and constructive ways to creatively fill these journals.

How might you envision your idea spreading across geographies or cultures so that it inspires young people around the world to cultivate their creative confidence?

This concept seems fairly easy to spread since it is in the form of a book. It can be published in different languages and pages/entire books can be modified for a range of demographics ranging in differing geographical locations. If it became very popular, I see these journals being used creatively in schools as a home room activity that allows for classmates to share their ideas with one another on a frequent basis. The question "why didn't I think of that?" is something that I believe inspires creative confidence for the youth. This will enable the younger generation to get more and more creative as the pages in the book get filled day by day.

What skills, input or guidance would you like to receive from the OpenIDEO community to help you build out or refine your idea further?

I thought that it was a very interesting idea that know one would really think about doing as an art project. I think that it is a very creative idea and I think that it looks so cool!!!!
