Have you ever seen our life through children’s eyes? 

Just give a camera to your children. 
They will show you their own secret world.

The photographs which children take will be automatically sent to “Imagination Map", application which I will create. The app will also provide children with various interesting games: linking photographs with each other, re-organising and making a new storyline and so on. The other function of this app is a children’s social networking service. They can share with each other their imaginative idea, such as created stories or imagination maps on this platform. 

This “Imagination Map” application idea comes from user diary research method and the photographs which children themselves take. In addition, coming across a dissertation by Johanna Einarsdottir, I realised that understanding children’s perspectives can open up a new world and motivate children’s creativities.

1. The outcomes of activities can be automatically shared on this platform.
2. Starring and leaving comments on the shared outcomes of activities.

In this challenge, we want to create ideas with young people, not for them. Outline how you’re planning to involve young people or other end-users (parents, teachers, etc) in designing, iterating or testing your idea during the Ideas phase.

This whole service system is operated by children.
First of all, they will generate the core sources by taking pictures.
Secondly, they create their own imagination map or creative story using the games which this app provides.
Lastly, they can express their own ideas and communicate with each other on this platform.
This social network will help them to grow their social skills and confidence to express their own ideas.
The role of adults is just to provide children with the playground (Imagination Map app), to understand children’s perspectives and to observe their behaviour.

How might you envision your idea spreading across geographies or cultures so that it inspires young people around the world to cultivate their creative confidence?

I will spread this service through mobile and desktop application, .

The benefits.
1. Taking pictures can be a creative hobby. Children can find interesting subjects and define their own world. For example, Paul Smith took pictures since he was eleven years old and he said this inspired him to form his own creative world.
2. Through playing the games on the app, children can develop their organising skills, storytelling skills and their sense of observation and imaginative power.
3. The social networking platform helps children to develop their social skills and cultivate their creative confidence.

What skills, input or guidance would you like to receive from the OpenIDEO community to help you build out or refine your idea further?

And promoting this service everyone who interested in this service idea.

Hey Alice! Here are my thoughts:

[First stage]
1. Would we put a limit on the # of children or the # of pictures? We could make it 1 photo per day per person?
2. What are the kinds of pictures? I'm thinking of everything, from landscape to portrait. But we could have certain days of the week be themed, or have a narrative, like Mondays = Family Portraits, Tuesdays = Outside in the Air, etc.

[Second stage]
1. This can definitely be the customization part to the photos, but I'm thinking of something totally far out which is that the algorithm or the app that gets built puts the storytelling game together. Because how cool would it be to see you upload something and then based not the colors or the location, it starts to flow into a story. But we could easily have the kids just drag and drop photos together to put into some story.
2. What about painting on your photographs?
3. I like this, but wonder if it gets too complex? Videos are fun, but then you need a phone that can do this, whereas most photos today can take pictures, right?

[Third stage]
1. Per my comment below, we need to think about the demographic here because kids aren't usually on social networks but if they are, then this app should certainly plug into that.

I was suppose to test this app lightly after framework stage : before designing specifically.

How many photographs do children take pictures in a day?
 (I want to test the average of photographs which children take because when we design games for next stage, this number would be helpful data.)
I think we don’t have to limit the photos per day or per person which children take.
What kind of pictures? (I’d like to know the main subject which children enjoy so this test also can be helpful for designing game)
I totally agree with your idea. I’m also thinking everything. Your idea is brilliant. We can suggest some theme or narrative. It would motivate more and interesting!!

[Second stage - Activities with photographs]
Story telling game.
This was just order to play a game because I wanted to give some clue to create a story. As your idea, “drag & drop” is definitely easy way for children to enjoy game. I love your suggestion of User Experience!!
Painting base on your daily photographs + Painting on your photographs
Amazing idea!! "Painting on you photographs” I’m sure that this will be really attractive play for children.
Making a music video
I think this function is not so difficult to make technically because recently a lot of application making music video already spread out on the app store freely. So we will be able to gain the programming source easily.

[Third stage - Social Network]
Yes, As your mention, we can study more about under 13 children’s social networks. To be honest, I don’t have a lot of knowledge about internet official law. In my opinion, many children under 13 are recently enjoying mobile & desktop games, even 5 or 6 years old children under protect and agree of their parents. I think the barrier which children can be faced is typing letter. In a meantime, if we provide easy and interesting User Experience like just attach stars or drawing letter or shape, children can enjoy easily on the platform.
In addition, every outcomes by games can be uploaded automatically on this social network platform just pressing agree button.

Great Alice! I think user testing will provide a lot of insight. So it sounds like we need to know the following:

1. Test the average # of photographs children are likely to take both short-term (in one sitting, for example) and long-term (over the entire length of their journey)
2. Gain a sense of what kids want to photograph
3. What buttons or motions do kids want to play with either their photos or someone else's

And lastly, maybe I can reach out to a couple of kids app makers, like Homer Learning, - they have some incredible kids apps and could maybe explain some of the demographic requirements and UX designs to keep in mind.

Oh and I forgot to mention that I'm a photographer and so I particularly love this concept bc I think all kids should grow up taking pictures as a way to express their creativity.

Any type of prototype could work, even if it's just Design UI sketches?! Also, I just spoke with a Design Director for Sesame Street and she told me kids do not like to scroll; they like to only play with what's right there. So apps usually work well when it's just the tablet space, for example, and you don't ask kids to go from one page to the next. Which is interesting in the context of photos because you typically see them as slideshows. How would we show photos if not in slideshow form? It's an interesting UI to try & solve!

I think that the type of prototype depends on the tasks and stage. Before designing this app, we can carry out some tasks like defining average number of photos. But if we want to test of User Experience or social network service, we need to rough UI sketch and basic programming resources.
As the Design Director said, we should be careful to design UX structure. Right, iPad is better than mobile phone to play game but most games have two version of UI. Solving UX challenge is like puzzle. We will find a very good solution!!
