Open IDEO Junior

Open IDEO Junior would give kids ranging from ages 12 to 17 the chance to show off their creativity online much like we are doing right now.

Teenagers usually feel the brunt of suppressed creativity. They are still considered children, but want to be regarded as adults. So why not allow for them to post and take-part in challenges like Open IDEO offers?

Open IDEO Junior would allow kids ages 12-17 to partake in events much like Open IDEO offers to adults. This would allow for them to open up their creativity in a safe place online. They will also know that they will be helping bigger causes and be able to connect with adults who share their ideas on Open IDEO as well.

In this challenge, we want to create ideas with young people, not for them. Outline how you’re planning to involve young people or other end-users (parents, teachers, etc) in designing, iterating or testing your idea during the Ideas phase.

I plan to connect with the education department on my campus to visit middle and high schools around the area. I will interact with education majors as well to go to schools and introduce Open IDEO to them. Once I gage how much they like concept of Open IDEO, I will propose my idea of having an Open IDEO exclusively for their age group. Based on their responses, I will design specifics that they would want included on the site.

How might you envision your idea spreading across geographies or cultures so that it inspires young people around the world to cultivate their creative confidence?

I would like Open IDEO Junior to feature outstanding participates in challenges. These participants will be featured on social networking sites which would reach a worldwide audience. If young people around the world see the great accomplishments others in their age group have achieved, they will want to be more like them. This would help cultivate their creative confidence by giving them a sense of community among peers in their age group who like and strive to be creative.

What skills, input or guidance would you like to receive from the OpenIDEO community to help you build out or refine your idea further?

I have strong skills in graphic design, but I would need help with prototyping advice and cost guidance. I would also need help with building the website and getting approval from Open IDEO to expand its name.
