Fun Restaurant for Kids

Food is very inspiring source for creativity in many ways taste, smell, sight and sound. If children share a creative meal that they have made, with friends, they can cultivate their confidence.

My idea is about kids running a school restaurant one day a week. To prepare the day’s meal, children will study the nutrition of a food and design look and feel for the dish. Children can improve their creativity and learn about not only colour, shape, taste and texture but also nutrition. Providing friends with their creative meal which they have designed, they can boost their confidence.

I was inspired by this article and realised how children's food can be fun and creative. Jill is a mother of three sons and she cooks silly and fun food with her sons. what lovely food!!

Where
s chool

How
  • Before creating a meal, students will make a recipe for the meal considering nutrition and design.
  • Students themselves will serve their creative meal.
  • After Fun Restaurant day, they will analyse how much their friends liked the food, how they can improve it in the future.

When
Once a week.

Benefits
  • Children can grow their collaboration skills in a group
  • Through designing their own meal, they can improve creativity.
  • Providing their creative food in a school, they can feel confidence and have their sense of responsibility.
  • Students might enjoy the creative meal more than the ordinary school meal.

In this challenge, we want to create ideas with young people, not for them. Outline how you’re planning to involve young people or other end-users (parents, teachers, etc) in designing, iterating or testing your idea during the Ideas phase.

This programme is created by children. Teachers and parents can support children's programme knowledge of nutrition and cooking skills.

How might you envision your idea spreading across geographies or cultures so that it inspires young people around the world to cultivate their creative confidence?

I will run children’s food recipes webpage. This programme can be spread out across many schools and people simultaneously. This webpage can provide various recipes and nutrition information for children. If this programme proves its value, communities or famous chef may endorse introduce this program.

What skills, input or guidance would you like to receive from the OpenIDEO community to help you build out or refine your idea further?

Hi Alice, really liking your idea! have you thought about spreading the idea so that different schools could maybe collaborate to share recipes and insights? maybe they could visit each other for the day and prepare meals together? would be nice to not only learn from other people, but also meeting new people who shares the same interest/hobby as you :)
