Jocus Creativity App

Lets Make Stuff!

Jocus is the Latin for Joke or fun and the fundamental point of the Jocus app is to have fun and create stuff! The Jocus app is a tool to spread creativity and socialise, the real stuff comes from the actual kids and what they make!
Many kids nowadays are constantly on smart phones and tablets playing games, watching videos flicking through pictures and just playing around with the device. With the Jocus app, it would encourage kids to make, do or draw something pretty much anything creative at home/school or wherever they like and upload it onto the Jocus Creativity app. The fundamental idea is to get kids to start boosting creativity through the use of smart phones and tablets. What the kids make will be determined by their teacher, for example the theme might be to build a small tree house. How long to be spent on each theme could also be determined by the teacher e.g. One week or two weeks on each project. The data the kids upload onto the app could then be viewed by their teachers (via the schools icloud database) which would be displayed in class and also social networking sites like Facebook and Twitter. These activities could take part in school or out of school; hence the whole idea is to share the work the kids have created. Kids can also work in groups depending on the task set by their teachers; this would increase their confidence as well as creativity.
Each up-loader will be rewarded by a point system; so eventually the more creative things they do and upload on the app the more points they will receive. The more points you get the more sweets u may win as a prize in school! This app is aimed at kids starting from the age of 4; with the help of their parents they can use the app to upload and display what they have made or done. The idea is to encourage kids to use Smartphone’s not as a toy but as a tool to enhance their creativity and consequently their confidence.

*New* Refinement question: What will the future look like with your idea in it?

The world now is hugely technology based, this is to an extent where kids are playing with smartphones and tablets now. The future with this app idea will definitely be more realistic because it is basically what kids are using now, smart devices and the idea of the concept is to convert this into something useful for them. Young people everywhere can be appreciated for the work they have and uploaded to the app, with groups or individually. The points system allows users to gain creativity points, hence, the more things they do the more points they receive potentially increasing their identity and creativity.

In this challenge, we want to create ideas with young people, not for them. Outline how you’re planning to involve young people or other end-users (parents, teachers, etc) in designing, iterating or testing your idea during the Ideas phase.

Firstly the app would need to be downloaded onto the parents/carers smartphone or tablet. (A computer could be used in order to log in to the website account and upload for the kids which do not have an access to smartphone or tablet device) Teachers will set tasks for the children where they can take part in groups or do stuff individually. Parents could of course engage with their kids while using the app to help them upload stuff, however, parents could also assist in helping creative thinking and giving kids ideas and confidence throughout the stages. The Jocus Creativity app also allows kids to gain creativity points and see a live feed of what their friends have made and collaborate.

How might you envision your idea spreading across geographies or cultures so that it inspires young people around the world to cultivate their creative confidence?

My idea could spread across the world very easily because smartphones and apps are very widespread. It will inspire young people to engage and make creative things as in different places of the world cultures and needs are different. As teachers will set tasks for students, they may also perceive it as homework so consequently being creative will be enforced by the teachers. I want to create a gateway using this app which enhances creative thinking across geographies by the use of constantly making and doing creative things, sharing it with people (teachers or classmates) and gain credit and confidence for it.

What skills, input or guidance would you like to receive from the OpenIDEO community to help you build out or refine your idea further?

With an app the possibilities are infinite, so my question is what other features might be cool to add to the Jocus Creativity app?

Really cool idea, Seyhan! It's always nice to be able to share what you've made with other people/those who are also interested and the app seems really easy to use. Have you considered a more detailed diagram/storyboard to illustrate the idea? - show us how the points system works, how many points do you earn? what about those who don't own a smartphone? how can they access the app? - just some considerations. keep up the good work! :)
