Tell us about your idea

How might we encourage primary school kids to become at-home designers in their spare time and tackle some wicked social problems?

Our first prototype:

A full day highly interactive session for 8 young humans to learn HCD tools and tackle the challenge of reducing single use plastic.

Young humans, parents and carers LOVED it, and now we need to think about reaching a larger audience.

Our next prototype:

A pdf booklet that walks kids through the HCD process via a specific mission for them to design a solution for.

Our future ideas:

Fully interactive OpenIDEO style platform with integrated social

Wonder ambassadors

Virtual reality experiences

Tik tok- social campaign

Wonder school (an alternative to school school!)

Wonder Merchandise and Design Thinking Kits

A Wonder Club bus for excursions

What part(s) of the pre-COVID school system do you wish to leave in the past? Why?

We surveyed 40 kids and parents and we found that we need to leave behind: - Structure - Rigour - Teacher-led - Boring - Not connected to the world. We need to move towards: - Kid-led - Bitesize - Project based - Collaboration - Play - Engagement In order to develop: - Resilience - Creativity - Problem solving - Critical thinking - Entrepreneurial spirit

Tell us a little bit about yourself and what inspired you to share this idea.

My name is Bec, I'm the captain of a small Human-centred Design agency called ROWBOAT based in Melbourne, Australia. Ben is our amazing creative lead. Together, we saw a massive opportunity to use some of the magic tools in the HCD toolkit and use them to empower kids to solve problems.

We've tested this concept and run a full - day face to face session with 8 kids, now we want to find a way to reach more kids- virtually!

What region are you located in?

This is an amazing idea! I'd happily think along on how this concept could be applied in Europe, and on what the full platform could look like, and help with connections etc!
