What is still here.

We still have love, connection, air, sun, earth, and water.

Tell us about your idea

Create more outside schools, construct covered pergolas to shelter from rain, heat lamps for cold days.

Make schools more like libraries, show them the menu and let them pick. Keep ratios of any caregiver (teacher, doctor, prison guard, therapist) 7:1.

What part(s) of the pre-COVID school system do you wish to leave in the past? Why?

Large classes, rigid starting times, meaningless and endless testing, grades, looking at education as stairsteps that one can only ascend from grade to grade if a certain amount of curriculum is digested instead of recognizing that learning is more like a ball of string, constantly growing, not without a few dips and bumps that eventually get smoothed out. Trust the Children.

Tell us a little bit about yourself and what inspired you to share this idea.

Homeschool/Blendschool (half home/half school) advocate, Mother of four for 42 years, educator for 30, author for 25. I wroteTrust the Children: Games and Guidelines for Home and School in 1998. A modest sales (5K) was recognized and I still have my day job as a TK teacher for 8 years and before that the Blendschool for 22 years; it is a model that is ripe for return.

Where are you located?

Occidental, CA is a small community about 60 mi. north of San Francisco, where people raise goats, not act like them.
