This application provides students opportunities to interact with friends and teachers through a “virtual school”.

This application is made for students to enjoy school life virtually through a game, but with more educational factors contained. It is designed for students and teachers who currently attend (or teach at) school.
How to use the application
① Download the app to electronic devices (computers are recommendable, but smartphones can do the job).
② Create own avatars and enter community groups. School classrooms are mandatory for students, other recreational groups such as sport teams, band groups and hobby sharing societies are compulsory.
③ Teachers: Upload online class videos and other tasks for students.
Students: Attend classes online (in the same way as you do e-learning) and receive “money points” which you can use in the app.
④ Participate in school events (Ex. School Festival, Sports Day, Prom, Halloween, Christmas, etc.)
Example of things you can do: open mock stores for the School Festival, power up your avatars physically for Sports Day, dress up your avatars for Prom, decorate rooms for seasonal events
You can do all these things by using the “money points” earned by attending classes.
⑤ Contribute in recreational groups which are open for anyone (different age, different school)
Have online phone calls with friends, share comments about the latest movie you watched, sing songs and share it to others to listen, get instructions for successful muscle training, take online dance lessons, etc.
Currently, many schools are corresponding to the COVID-19 situation by using online classing. Many schools had quick responses for school work. On the other hand, an important factor is being left out: “building relationship with others.” We believe that building human relationships roles a center part of school life for students. The purpose of school is not only to teach academics but to make students learn how to belong in a society and communicate with others. Furthermore, we wanted to give all students something to enjoy and cheer them up under this stagnated situation.
What makes a difference between this app from video chatting or other online communication tools currently used, is that users can share the same virtual space. They can play around within the same screen, like Animals Crossing from Nintendo. Therefore, students can feel closer to other students and teachers while staying home. Another difference is that this app could be a trigger for students to enjoy online school work. Students would be able to earn “money points” by attending classes and use them in other events within the app. This would give them motivation for them to continue taking classes without skipping.
There are issues such as how engineers create the app, if there are companies willing to fund, how long it takes to make use of it. The biggest issue is, however, that there may be students without enough financial allowance. We are currently trying to utilize some methods and approaches from design thinking, which we believe made us bring innovative ideas without denying.

I’m an intern of Bloc Application, a company in Japan. I have two other members in my team, and we joined this challenge to share our innovative idea for students who cannot go to school and meet friends under this circumstance of COVID-19. We belive that one of our most memorable and precious experiences are gained through school life and events. Many students are disappointed with the fact that events are postponed of canceled and we feel resentment for this situation which cannot be helped. This is how we came up with our idea stated above.
