Kids need unstructured social time to maintain their mental health, so let's create a virtual cafeteria for those organic conversations.
Tell us about your idea
When I asked my 10 year old daughter what she missed most about her school, she answered without hesitation, "Lunch, definitely." She loved sitting with different groups of friends each day and catching up on things in their lives. The conversations had natural lulls, and the time recharged her for the rest of the afternoon.
How might we reimagine this unstructured social time while students are learning remotely? Can we recreate the cafeteria and allow for group and 1:1 conversations that students can move in and out of? One inspiration is this site https://theonline.town/

I've worked in education for the last 12 years. I also am the parent to a 10 year old. I was inspired to share this idea because I see how lonely my child has become since shelter-in-place started.
