Tell us about your idea

I would like to suggest creative use for radio in the teaching process. Radio is cheap (little cost) available in every home and on ever devise and allows for interactive engagement. My idea is simply to find the best teacher/s and let them engage with students using radio and answering their questions by phone or by social media.

What part(s) of the pre-COVID school system do you wish to leave in the past? Why?

Rote unengaged learning because there is no give and take and it is a one way street

Tell us a little bit about yourself and what inspired you to share this idea.

I am a person who believes in community media. I set up the Arab world's first internet radio in 2000 in Amman with support from UNESCO. I have worked hard to convince governments, NGOs and communities that local radio owned by communities is one of the best development tools. I am also an award winning Palestinian journalist and vice chair of the International Press Institute. I am founder and director of the not for profit Community Media Network in Jordan

What region are you located in?

  • Western Asia

Where are you located?

We are located in the Jordanian capital Amman but our work is throughout the country and the MENA region. We helped communities empower themselves through local media. Community media is our main focus and we have set up community radio stations throughout the Middle East as well

Hi Daoud Kuttan
I'm Sarah, one of the Community Coaches. Thank you for signing up to this challenge and sharing your idea with us!

Radio is definitely a great cost-effective medium that can be used creatively in education. As I read through your submission, I was reminded of Radio Enseña - a submission by Catalina Hepp . May be you could build on each other's ideas or join forces and work together by integrating both concepts.

Good luck!
