Tell us about your idea

The country is under lock down restricting the mobility of people and at the moment all the children are stuck at their homes. During such pandemic, it is necessary to initiate virtual education to allow students to continue their educational progress. However, students in public schools, do not have access to ICT equipment and infrastructure required for virtual learning. This means that the educational progress of children enrolled in public schools, who do not have any access to virtual education, is at risk. This creates educational inequities. Hence, this project will train 500 teachers of public schools on online or virtual schooling methodology who will further train 10000 teachers. The students of these public schools will be provided with online tools and will be trained one the same so that they have access to academic classes online and hence the schools resume online classes soon and the educational progress of the students continue in the public schools too.

What part(s) of the pre-COVID school system do you wish to leave in the past? Why?

As Pakistan has multifarious disasters in past and in many cases all the sectors were in halt for weeks and in some cases for months. The training to teachers of public schools on operating virtual classes wont only meet the current need for resuming academic classes to continue the education progress but it will also benefit in the longer run. The teacher can run the classes remotely if he/she is out of station through this virtual classes. Hence, this is a one time investment on teachers and students that will have long term impacts on performance of both students and teachers as it strengthens the capacity of students and teachers to access the internet and use it in teaching and learning methodology whenever there is no feasibility for operating the classes physically. The training to the students on digital tools will be for their entire lifetime which they can use for learning process and can be mobilized to train other students if such situation emerges again.

Tell us a little bit about yourself and what inspired you to share this idea.

During the lockdown the private schools started the online education and my 10 years old son started and connected with learning but I found the students of public schools mostly living in remote rural areas while be excluded from this learning. Hence this create inequity in accessing the education in this pandemic. This feel encourage  me to think about the ways and to find support system to resume remote education for the student of poor people living in remote rural areas.

Where are you located?

We are located in Hyderabad a city of Sindh province of Pakistan. The project will provide online education in 2 districts of Sindh named Matiari and Tando Muhammad Khan ,Pakistan in 50 secondary schools. SCF has been engaged in girls education since last 6 years and since three years focused secondary girls' education. SCF has enrolled 400 girls in district Tando Muhammad Khan and Matiari and retained 1046 girls in 08 girls secondary schools. SCF trained 60 female teachers on gender based teaching methods and entrepreneurship and 40 female head teachers on planning, management and leadership. SCF has also engaged 300 girls in entrepreneurship competitions. Besides, SCF have established science laboratories in 8 girls high schools of Tando Muhammad Khan district. SCF is running a model of wheel for education and providing transportation to 50 girls who are needy and poor, vulnerable to child marriage if left the schools. These 50 girls are offering coaching classes to 150 women and girls who never went to school or left earlier from the primary education. SCF has trained female teachers on inquiry based science education and established 8 science laboratories and LED based education.
