Tell us about your idea

As an academic platform, we took an initiative of virtual/online sessions, trainers and experienced speakers share the knowledge to teach the students with different skills. We also share different academic and skill developing courses taught by experts of respective field. I also want to propose an idea of implying a proper system through which parents and teachers will be trained on how they can engage student with academic activities, as most of the teachers failed to conduct proper lecture that affects the students’ performance. On the other hand, parents training should be in focus too, on how they can engage their (kindergarten-primary school) kid in different extra-curricular activities and teach their child by the use of different tools available online to make sure the child doesn’t stop learning in any situation. Early-education related awareness programs should be initiated, especially for kindergarten and primary school students.

What part(s) of the pre-COVID school system do you wish to leave in the past? Why?

The system that force students to memorize everything and understand nothing. The grading system that grades the students based on the content memorized rather than grading on the basis of their understanding of the topic and how the student explains the concept through their ideas. The other thing that is needed to be changed is the examination system, the exam should be conceptual rather than long notes and stories to be explained.

Tell us a little bit about yourself and what inspired you to share this idea.

I am a university student and work for an online academic platform (Opportunities circle), I was inspired to share the idea by personal experience of frustrating and improper online lectures that isn’t delivering any knowledge, another reason to share this idea is that since the outbreak occurred and the closure of schools, no initiative have been taken on large scale for kindergarten and primary school children in Pakistan, they need the online education most as they are in a stage of learning new things and they’ve been cut-off with other extra-curricular activities that are essential for their growth.

What region are you located in?

  • Southern Asia

Where are you located?

Islamabad, Pakistan.

Thank you so much for your submission, Hafsa Farghan and for highlighting the multiple groups (parents, caregivers, teachers, students, etc.) in need of support and redesign during this pandemic. If you haven't already done so, I encourage you to spend a little time reading some submissions on this platform - there are many organizations and individuals around the globe innovating around similar needs! It's incredibly powerful!

It sounds like your organization has already had the opportunity to bring part of your idea to life - which is fantastic. I'm curious - what have you learned so far? Any key takeaways? I wonder how your academic platform might be adjusted for the primary school children to help them learn during this time...
