Enabling them with the right tool to create their own stories by adding photos, drawings and videos would be exciting and engaging activity for them while they are away from the school.

What part(s) of the pre-COVID school system do you wish to leave in the past? Why?

Q: What part(s) of the pre-COVID school system do you wish to leave in the past? A: Stereotype learning and imparting knowledge. Most of the curriculum are centered around books that are pre-designed and pre-compiled for kids to absorb knowledge from. These curriculum are more of non interactive one way path for gaining knowledge. Why? With the changing times, changing information sharing models, changing social and cultural dynamics...adapting to new methods that embraces holistically the complete society including parents, teachers, care-givers, leaders and children to learn and share knowledge beyond the boundaries of man made borders.

Tell us a little bit about yourself and what inspired you to share this idea.

Thank you for your incredibly thoughtful and detailed submission, Mohan Gopal ! I'm Rachel, one of the Community Coaches. We are grateful that you took the time to share on this platform! I'm excited by storytelling as a way to learn, connect and create change and really like that your idea provides the opportunity for teachers, parents and students to collaborate on the digital stories. Storytelling through communities/generations can be so powerful.

I wonder how you see Picture my Story fitting into the remote learning context. Are you envisioning that all learning take place through the app?

Really inspired that you've created learning resources for your own children and can sense how passionate you are about education - thank you for being part of this community!

Hi Rachel,
Thanks for the feedback. It's quite motivating.

As for the platform fitting in the remote learning, I believe sharing knowledge and teaching children through story telling has the best impact when the children themselves are part of the story playing various roles like someone who helps the world, someone who cares for nature, someone who empathize with others...helps build strong character and mold their social and emotional intelligence.

My idea is to create a mobile and web application that will enable teachers, educators, and parents to create their own story for children to take photographs and drawings to add it in the content.

As for the academic curriculum, teaching science and math through story for children would have a greater impact in learning. I'm imagining something like a simple story on addition or division could be a story about a chipmunk who collects 10 nuts very day has a friend with whom he shares half of it... children can be encouraged to take photos of the nuts, photo of chipmunk (even a toy, a real chipmunk in the garden, hand drawn...) would make learning so much more fun.

Regarding teaching my children, I have created my own comics and scribbles to teach them science and math concepts.
Sharing below a link to the comic I created...this is more of Photoshopped images of my son and his favorite scientist Dr. Michio Kaku.

I'd love to be a part of this wonderful community doing wonderful job to create a better world to live in.

Best Regards!

Hi Rachel,
Missed out on your other question below:
"Are you envisioning that all learning take place through the app?"
Nope. We cannot replace the current education model completely as we are heavily dependent on the existing education framework that includes structured syllabus and evaluation method.
The App can be an add on for early learning for many underprivileged schooling system with content that can be created by the local community, teachers and parents to educate the children. It can be very localized, very cultural centric and current to the situation..
A lot depends on the story writer's creativity to drive imparting education with fun.
