Less coronavirus, more interacting with people!

Due to the coronavirus, we can't meet people in the public and we want to make people remain relationships.

Tell us about your idea

Due to the coronavirus, we can't go outside and meet people. It is okay to go outside but, we have to stay cautious, maintain 6 feet from each other, and always have to wear face masks. It is difficult so, people do not tend to go outside. They just stay at home. Also, we are doing remote learning from school and do works. Most teachers do zoom calls or hangout video chat to answering our questions or checking-in with us. But, all of these video calls are optional, not mandatory. So, many students don't go into zoom calls and chat with teachers. To support in "community" session, my idea is that teachers have to make mandatory zoom calls for each class and chat with them once a week. Through this, we can feel more connected with teachers and peers in each class. Additionally, we can do fun virtual activities in class through zoom calls. We can watch videos(or movies) related to class or do crossword puzzles by sharing our screens in the zoom. These activities can make fun and also maintain our relationships with each other. But, I think doing virtual ceremonies like proms or graduations will be kind of hard by zoom calls. Because I experienced a virtual banquet form band to celebrate our this year's procedure by looking at the pictures that my teacher showed us through zoom. It was okay but also kind of boring.

What part(s) of the pre-COVID school system do you wish to leave in the past? Why?

I don't think there is nothing in my opinion. Because everything is going well and remote learning from school is not that bad as I think.

Tell us a little bit about yourself and what inspired you to share this idea.

I am a student at Glenbrook North High school in Northbrook Illinois. I am junior and I am doing this activity because this was our homework in PLTW class. PLTW is the class where we learn about engineering stuff. What inspired me to share this idea with the website is not only because this is our homework but also I think about remote learning. This is our first experience doing the works with the internet at home. I know this is hard for everyone but it is not that bad as I thought in the past when the school announced they are doing remote learning for the remaining semester. I wanted to share my idea because I want to make remote learning as efficient as we are learning in school.

Where are you located?

I'm in a city called Northbrook in Illinois state. Illinois is a midwestern state bordering Indiana in the east and the Mississippi River in the west. Nicknamed "the Prairie State," it's marked by farmland, forests, rolling hills, and wetlands. The capital of this state is Springfield and the population is 12.67 million.

Hi Yeon, thank you for contributing. Your insights are very valuable. Based on what you noticed about online celebrations being hard to follow and boring, do you have any ideas that would help make them more engaging?
