Games can be used effectively to create awareness and share information, as training tools and for evaluation of interventions.

What part(s) of the pre-COVID school system do you wish to leave in the past? Why?

Games are structured activities, usually undertaken for fun and enjoyment. They often require a strategy to win, yet there is an element of chance and luck. Games are more concerned with the expression of ideas. Through this one can express their ideas in a creative and innovative way. Games provide experiences and opportunities to express ideas and share opinions, practice communication skills, develop interpersonal relationships and learn discipline. Tell us a little bit about yourself and what inspired you to share this idea.

I am Aparna Khanna, Associate Professor at the Department of Development Communication and Extension, Lady Irwin College (University of Delhi). I have been working closely with organisations providing services to women and youth in grassroots communities. I designs communication tools and strategies (especially centred around games and storytelling) using a participatory approach to promote desirable change with regard to contemporary development issues. Presently I am designing games for disseminating information on COVID-19, health, hygiene, nutrition, mental health and well being. These games can be played individually in the safety of our homes and when shared over social media they can be played as a group.
