Hi Malek, I would love to hear more of your insights on this of why facial expression is so essential for these face masks, and why you would prefer these to transparent face shields? Thank you for sharing your idea with the community!

Hi Katherine, thanks for your questions, in terms of why facial expressions are essential, it’s a key part of our non-verbal communication, it’s enable human emotions to become visible, and gives a more humane connection which is even more needed in those life and death situations. It would help a nurse and doctor to provide a more relaxed and calm engagement with a patient. It would also help those with poor hearing and those who leverage lip reading to make it easier to understand what someone is saying.

In most hospital settings today both a non transparent face mask and transparent face shield are being using together in order to protect the wearer. Hence a transparent face mask, would not replace the need for a transparent face shield, as a face shield would protect the rest of the face, eg eyes, however a face shield is not air tight and does not have an air filter. So both are needed.

Maybe you can also add additional insights for your perspectives?
