From Bags to Masks

My company Casauri went from producing about 100 masks in our living room to setting up a virtual factory to make over 10,000 masks.

It started by a few calls from friends asking if we could make some masks. My sister does custom decor and makes our Casauri bags. Then we started getting more and more calls, until a local hospital contacted us. We had to make the ultimate pivot and call upon all our years of experience in manufacturing products overseas to create a virtual factory. We were able to source thousands of yards of fabric and gain access to materials that were in short supply. In addition, we were able to hire sewing professionals that were able to make the masks. The entire process probably involved at least one hundred different steps that we were able to orchestrate and execute efficiently and expeditiously.

What is the need are you focusing on?

We are helping to fill the gap for high quality personal protective equipment face masks. Our masks are CDC-Compliant and made from 100% cotton with triple to quadruple layers. They are made with simplified pieces to make it easier to sew and produce while still being effective.

What is the best example of business adaption you’ve seen in response to COVID-19?

My company is my inspiration because we were able to mobilize resources quickly and hire people who would be otherwise unemployed and put them to work. In addition, we are working with a medical institution whose thousands of employees are depending on what several individuals are collectively doing to meet a need.
