business, an emergency response to Covid-19
To implement a circular, solidary and inclusive economy through the creation of a mobile application, attempting to form a community
- These are difficult times that oblige us to live isolated from the world inside our homes to protect our and our family’s safety and help to mitigate the effects of COVID-19 pandemic.
- In Bolivia, we are already for 40 days in absolute quarantine, that has forced large and small companies to stop their operations. Many small entrepreneurs who live from their daily work are going through difficult times. Our government has activated different measures to alleviate the economic stagnation, which will favor families with limited resources, but this will not be enough to reactivate our economy and face this crisis.
- Our nonprofit Organization Huellas & Futuro accomplishing its mission, is activating mechanisms that allow us to reach poor families to cover their basic needs in this time of emergency. So far, we have obtained funds that enable us to arrange food baskets with basic monthly supplies for 200 families in the city of Cochabamba Bolivia. However, it is inevitable to think about the close future in which we will have to fight with the economic damages caused by the pandemic.
- Given that our way of living has changed, we will have to invent new ways of doing business, hence, of Huellas & Futuro, in order to promote a reactivation of the economy, we are developing an application for cellphones and computers with the aim of Implement a circular, solidary and inclusive economy through the creation of an app, in which absolutely everyone who can access a smartphone with a certain volume of data, will be part of an entrepreneurs community who will promote and capitalize on their talents, to generate income from the comfort and safety of their home, avoiding risks of spread.
What is the need are you focusing on?
We are experiencing one of the worst world crises, the COVID-19 disease puts at risk an essential global public good, our health, which will impact our already weakened economy by disrupting production chains and daily sales; According to ECLAC, the loss of income will lead to an increase in the extreme poverty rate in Latin America from 67.4 to 90 million people. In Bolivia, many families are in an emergency due to the lack of labor sources, which does not allow them to cover one of the most vital needs of their families, such as feeding. Our proposal aims to reactivate the global economy through a business model that includes everyone regardless of the degree of education, social status, race, gender, beliefs and above all without taking into account whether one has monetary capital because We want to create opportunities valuing human talent as the most valuable possession that each one has.
What is the best example of business adaption you’ve seen in response to COVID-19?
The Corona-virus pandemic in the world has shown us how the best health systems can overflow, artificial respirators are necessary for the survival, however, in Bolivia if we were to experience a collapse in our hospitals, we would not have the sufficient number of respirators in the entire country. The cost and current demand for these equipment makes it impossible for our government to acquire enough of them. But within this quarantine, many companies that had stopped their production chain have found an opportunity, for instance the “Quantum” pioneer in the manufacture of electric cars in our country, now in this crisis, they have decided to summon professionals to form teams and solve the shortcomings we have, starting with the manufacture of respirators. On the other hand, “Scorpion Soft”, a software company, is also promoting the development of prototypes of medical respirators that can be used by COVID-19 sufferers.
These companies, besides adapting during the crisis, have also
