Since early January I have been calmly preparing for this moment in California because of Chris Martenson's citizen journalism.
The Peak Prosperity Youtube channel is run by Chris Martenson, a PhD in pathology, economic researcher, and futurist. He delineates technical research and information from sources around the world into understandable and actionable tasks for my household to prepare and stay safe during this time. We've found his expertise extremely helpful.
In what ways did you change your behaviors as a result of this resource?
We were early adopters of accepting and preparing for this virus, thanks to Chris. That meant we started limiting our human exposure weeks prior to our county's mandate. We slowly increased our food stocks starting in January, started taking vitamins, and stopped worrying about our future plans and travel. We pulled our investments out of the stock market - as this is simultaneously an economic crisis. We felt an obligation to tell our circle of family and friends about the virus and its impacts, even if it hurt our social clout and credibility in the moment.
In what ways did you share this information?
We texted and called, we also shared the videos we had been watching. There were very few in-person interactions at that point.
What information do you feel you are missing about COVID-19?
I feel under informed and misinformed by our national government. Our local government(santa clara county) is doing a great job with what tools they have, but have still been slower to act than I had hoped. This will have impacts on our hospitals and economy in the coming weeks.
I direct a business that operates out of China, with employees in China, and I receive direct anecdotal information from our associates and factories in China. Hearing their stories is what made it real for me.
What populations or personas are not currently being addressed with today’s COVID-19 information?
So many people lack comprehension during this time - understandably so. I think there are a lot of official statements that are aimed at protecting people age 65+, but the lesser mentioned demo of people, who are also very vulnerable are aged 50-64. The problem is people in this age range hear that only "seniors" need to stay inside, and think to themselves that they are exempt.
