Useful Information Without the Fear

COVID-19 guides and symptom checkers should be accessible to all, lend actionable advice, and provide reassurance (not panic).

Hello, there! IDEO alum here (2013-2017).

I currently work for a pediatric healthcare company called Brave Care, and I am so inspired by our Care Team every single day—even more so now as we respond to COVID-19. While we currently only have one pediatric urgent care clinic open in Portland, we work as a team (across medical, engineering, design, and content) to create guides and tools that can be used by families all over. We also have extended hours (10am–10pm daily) and an after hours nurse line so families can reach us whenever they need to.

There's so much news flying around about COVID-19 and unfortunately a lot of it is panic inducing or just plain inaccurate. We created a COVID-19 guide and COVID-19-specific symptom checker to provide the latest, trustworthy updates, actionable advice, and other resources to families who are concerned about their kids' health.

It's so important that people receive the information they need to keep their families and communities safe. It's inspiring and uplifting to work with a team that's creating this content alongside a medical team.

Brave Care's COVID-19 guide and symptom checker can be found here.

What information do you feel you are missing about COVID-19?

I'm lucky that I don't feel I'm missing anything because I work alongside a medical team who keeps us informed of the latest.

What populations or personas are not currently being addressed with today’s COVID-19 information?

At present time I'm nervous for everyone in the States because of the way our government is "handling" the situation. I'm concerned about the people who think that because they're young and feel fine, they're free to ignore expert advice on social distancing to stop the spread.

-People suddenly without jobs

-Low-income, immigrants, and other groups who are already mistreated in the US

-Asian people suffering racist attacks due to current rhetoric
