Showing rather than telling. This article used a visual display of information to let people run simulated experiments themselves -- rather than just telling people what to do, it let the importance of it sink in.

It emphasized just how many people needed to stay out of contact with others to stop the spread. So this was the tipping point, where I finally wrapped my head around the fact that I wasn't going to be in the presence of anyone but my own household for a month.
