Singapore government created a Whatsapp chatgroup for the entire nation, provide accurate and timely updates on Covid-19 in Singapore.
Within a few days of the outbreak of Covid-19 in Singapore, the Singapore government has set up a nation-wide Whatsapp chatgroup where it disseminates key information to everyone in Singapore (if you have a post-paid Singapore mobile number). Information includes number of confirmed and recovered cases per day, total number of cases, as well as any other announcements such as school closures or reminders not to panic buy. The messages are also available in four different languages (English, Mandarin, Malay and Tamil) to cater to different races in Singapore.
In what ways did you change your behaviors as a result of this resource?
With a trusted source of info coming from the government, it prevents people from scoring the web in search of latest information on the Covid situation in Singapore, reducing the chances of misinformation from fake sources.
In what ways did you share this information?
I've encouraged my friends and family to subscribe to the whatsapp group, and have also helped my elderly parents and grandparents to subscribe.
What information do you feel you are missing about COVID-19?
Consolidated information about Covid-19 in various parts of the world.
What populations or personas are not currently being addressed with today’s COVID-19 information?
The Whatsapp group I shared about is only made available to those with a Singapore post-paid mobile number. But we have a huge population of foreign workers using pre-paid numbers and they are missing out on such information shared by the government.
