by Wang Zhou, MD
This book I picked up at Barnes and Noble is based on Chinese experience. They managed to contain the virus...
I also check reliable web sites and the radio: BBC, CNN, MSNBC, NPR.
Some social media like Facebook or Quora disseminate all kinds of conflicting messages. Recently, I posted on Facebook about the blood shortage (I went to donate) and it was deleted by some filter.
In what ways did you change your behaviors as a result of this resource?
I started ventilating my apartment, practicing social distancing, paying attention to surfaces where the virus may linger, recently paper money, using alcohol for disinfection.
Went to donate blood. I personally know a person who needs transfusions.
In what ways did you share this information?
I posted on Quora, Facebook, and LinkedIn.
What information do you feel you are missing about COVID-19?
There is a lot of information about what to do. There is a shortage of information about what not to do. Also, how to improvise.
1/ I went to a drugstore and all alcohol, hand sanitizer, and peroxide were gone. Then I went to a liquor store and they had plenty of 75% ethyl alcohol (we need >60%).
2/ I explained online how rubbing alcohol can be diluted or blended to make it last longer.
3/ One can take some common-sense precautions, like buying items from the bottom of the pile.
What populations or personas are not currently being addressed with today’s COVID-19 information?
1/ A person leaving my dentist coughed into a paper tissue and used the same tissue to open the door by the handle.
2/ At a Polish store, two friends parted by kissing each other twice on the cheek, a Polish custom.
3/ Today at the drugstore, a person was paying with wads of paper money. The cashier handled the money, then my groceries, including food. They should wear gloves.
We have to think about how to change such behaviors, taking into account a multi-cultural society.
