There is no single source of helpful information about COVID-19 ready for use by the different subpopulations of urban refugees in Thailand. For example, the Thai government has a website with up-to-date information about self-hygiene, government directives, test centers, available services, etc. Unfortunately, it is in the Thai language, which few urban refugees can read. We therefore have to rely on Thai staff to identify relevant information from that site and have it translated into different languages. We also canvas the websites of WHO, US CDC, and other reliable sources and identify relevant information for dissemination to the urban refugees. For this purpose, we have created a Facebook page to target Vietnamese, Hmong and Montagnard refugees from Vietnam (https://www.facebook.com/TinanThailan). Next, we will target refugees from Cambodia, Pakistan and other countries.

  • Yes

Where are you getting information around COVID-19?

  • Local Government
  • National Government
  • WHO (World Health Organization)

What information do you feel you are missing about COVID-19?

Practical information in the proper language that urban refugees can readily use. For example, advice about using hand sanitizer is not practical for refugees who can't afford it as they struggle to put food on the table. Our Facebook page posted two simple alternatives to over-the-counter hand sanitizer that can be inexpensively produced at home.

What populations or personas are not currently being addressed with today’s COVID-19 information?

Some 6,000 urban refugees and asylum seekers in Thailand
