Contact tracing itself is the process of tracing possible coronavirus infections and carry out targeted testing of high-risk people who have been in contact with infected persons. In absence of the capacity to carry out massive reliable testing, this process has proved efficient in identifying and testing with the aim of carrying out proactive confinement of positive cases and medical treatment to those with symptoms.

Contact tracing aims to break the chain of infection by identifying the individuals. In the same way, as contact tracing, out aim is to bring an element of transparency in the food chain by enabling tracking.

Now, our aim is to use existing technologies which enabled elements of transparency in the supply chain in light of the health issues related to the conditions under which food (fruits and vegetables) are stored as well as pesticides residues together with increasing wastage of food

We already have some experience with blockchain and IOT to enable this traceability

However, we think that with the urgent and changing need requirements because of Covid-19, it will not be possible to implement a blockchain based IOT or an IOT project using a device like particle.

Our objective will be to implement traceability using QR-code,  mobile phone as an IOT device with google map

Products travel frequently through huge network of stakeholders before reaching the end consumer which includes retailers, distributors, transporters, storage facilities, and suppliers that participate in design, production, delivery, and sales etc., still in almost all the cases these journeys remain an unobserved attribute of our possession.

the consumers as well the government's demands for more transparency from brands, manufacturers, and producers throughout the supply chain is increasing. Governments tend to provide more transparency in goods and their manufacturing details.

The supply chain monitoring and tracking systems are becoming the key means for providing the detailed description of a good and its life cycle to the producers as well as to the consumers who may select the end product based on the food chain details.

Such tracking system enable consumers to track product’s life cycle from the first producer via processing through different stakeholders involved to the very end shelf, where the end consumer finally purchased the product. Many companies are using supply chain to trace back to the source of products, increasing transparency into day-to-day supplier operations and reduce the irreverent  journey of products to their end users.

What is the need are you focusing on?

We want to address the need for tracking which has emerged as an urgent need to combat infection. Our objective is to know where items, including food are sourced so that in case there is infection, the item can be traced back rapidly without the need to handle the items as the covid-19 stays on surfaces for long periods of time. This is the key to supply chains remaining open.

Which type of submission are you sharing?

  • Identifying a gap that needs to be addressed

Describe the business pivot or adaptation in 3-4 sentences.

We want to use a technology which will limit the need for handling items in order to be able to know its origin. Covid- 19 is different from other viruses as it spreads through contact and stays on surfaces long after an infected person has touched it. By using QR-code to index products, we want to enable customers or item handlers at any step of the supply chain to be able to trace where the products come from.

Do you plan to implement this solution?

  • Yes

Describe the impact that this solution will create in the world.

The main impact is that it will enable traceability at a lesser cost and by using an existing technology, namely QR codes which is not difficult to understand. Our objective is not to implement some flashy new technology which would take a long time but rather focus on using a technology in a new way. At the same time, we aim to implement some simple training A customer can scan this QR code and this allows them to store the information for future reference. What’s also greater about QR codes is that they bridge different forms of marketing streams together. For example ecommerce and mobile commerce are both used for QR codes. QR codes acts as the link and it also exposes customers to other forms of advertising the business or service of the QR code has done.

  • Yes

If Yes to the above, please share 1-2 sentences describing the specific help you desire.

We need developer to work and testers to test before deployment. We also need to set up a team to implement

What do you think are the main barriers to implementing this solution?

Main barriers as with any information system will be people. However, here, the infection rate by covid should reduce the strength of this barrier

If you are currently working on a pivot, what have you learned so far?

That flashy new technologies do not help and that we need to be able to work remotely.

Are you aware of any open source efforts, hackathons or other collaborative efforts related to your solution? Are you participating in these efforts?

We are aware but have not been able to participate
